My Love Story

Have you always dreamed of a destination wedding? Well I am excited to tell you that you are not alone, destination weddings are on the rise. And I am proud to say that CARE Travel is certified specifically for Destination Weddings and Honeymoons! In fact, I just returned in May 2018 from renewing one of my wedding trainings.

Destination weddings have always had a special place in my heart, since I have not only had my own wedding on the beach, but I also had the traditional church wedding (so I can first hand compare the details of both styles for you).

For those of you who do not know my personal wedding story, here is a brief recap for you. Dan (my husband) and I meet back in April 1992, had our first child in 1995, and both of our families lightly ‘pressured’ us to ‘do the right thing’ and get married, so we did! No romantic or fancy proposal, just one night at home he handed me a ring, I asked if ‘this’ is what I thought it was, and he said yes. So, it was just assumed that this wedding planning was the next step in our lives…. The wedding planning began, we had the date set, church, invitations picked out, reception venue, flowers, photographer, cake, and all the details planned out. Jan 2000 was a beautiful day, everything went off without any major hiccups, thank goodness.

Life got the best of us, many difficulties, loss of a child due to miscarriage, loss of my grandfather (who was the dad in my life) and Dan and I end up getting divorced in June 2002. I can proudly admit that both Dan and I remained friends and always put our daughters needs first. After the divorce, we still spent a lot of time together with our daughter’s gymnastics meets and school events. Over a few years, we started to “date” again, going out to dinners and doing things together outside of just our daughters events. We realized that we both really did enjoy each other, and we fell in love all over again!

This time was different, his proposal was one of the most romantic events of my life! We took our daughter and her best friend to Disney World and Discover Cove in Florida, and we were swimming with the dolphins, and at the end the dolphin (her name was Cindy), brought a buoy to me and it said, “Will you marry me!” I was crying, thank goodness we were still in the water! After this we were guided to a private cabana area where there was beautiful ring, and Dan dropped down on one knee and asked me to marry him “again”!! Of course, I said yes!!

This time we were going to do the wedding OUR way…. At a beach! In fact, we grabbed our four best friends and headed off to Jamaica. We did not tell anyone what was really happening, even though a few people had suspicions ???? We got RE-married Jan 2008!! And I am blessed to say that I would not change a thing! If we did not get divorced we would not be where we are today, and I have not known love so true! Everyone says that Dan and I have an awesome love story, but honestly, we see it as growing closer together from experiences both good and bad.

Sorry my story got a little long, but I wanted to let you know that I personally know the value of a hometown wedding, but I also know the simplicity, and fun of a destination wedding! Hence my passion for creating destination wedding memories for our clients!
